Committee on Worship and Music

In 2002, the Synod in convention established a Committee on Worship and Music to “address learning areas such as the theology of Christian music, theology of Christian worship, church music and musicianship, church art and architecture, church drama and visual arts, as growth opportunities pertaining to sound, responsible, and meaningful Lutheran music and worship.” (Resolution 02.3.07)

The committee’s mandate is:

  • to provide opportunities for training in music and worship leadership [to] aid in raising up more servants and stewards of these gifts. (Resolution 02.3.07)
  • to prepare an evaluation of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod’s proposed hymnal and agenda (Lutheran Service Book) (Resolution 02.2.08)
  • to review and recommend songs and hymns newly written and/or from other tradition which congregations can use with confidence (Resolution 02.2.09)
  • to identify and encourage musically talented and gifted individuals within our church to write and produce sound theologically and confessionally based songs or hymns (Resolution 02.2.10)
  • to identify and organise intercessory prayer so that LCC congregations throughout Canada can participate each Sunday with one another in the general prayer, praying over the same issues. (Resolution 02.2.07)
